SKIN REJUVENATION WITH LASER PEELING

Last updated : 12 February 2026

Skin rejuvenation with laser peeling is now an established technique in dermatology and aesthetic medicine for significantly and lastingly improving skin quality. This procedure is based on a simple principle : inducing controlled skin renewal to stimulate the natural mechanisms of tissue repair and regeneration.
Laser peeling should not be confused with a simple, superficial cosmetic treatment. It is a medical procedure that works at a deeper level, with specific indications and objectively assessable results. Its effectiveness relies on the laser's ability to induce measurable dermal remodelling.

Why consider skin rejuvenation ?

The face changes over time. Features subtly alter, the complexion loses its radiance and certain expressions appear more pronounced. Often, people seek an aesthetic medicine consultation not simply because of wrinkles, but because they look tired, have a dull complexion or less bright eyes, and no longer recognise themselves in the mirror.
Rejuvenating the skin does not mean transforming a face. Above all, it is about restoring harmony, freshness and skin vitality while respecting each person's identity.
In Geneva, where expectations of medical aesthetics are particularly high, patients seek natural, elegant and gradual results. Modern treatments can now improve skin quality while preserving the authenticity of facial features.
Caring for your skin also means restoring an even, radiant complexion, reducing a crepey or sagging appearance, restoring skin firmness and suppleness, and building self-confidence.
Skin rejuvenation is therefore part of a comprehensive approach to well-being and feeling better about yourself.

How skin rejuvenation with laser peeling works

Laser peeling involves controlled removal of the superficial layers of the epidermis while stimulating the underlying dermis. The light energy emitted by the laser is absorbed mainly by the water in the tissues, causing targeted vaporisation of skin cells.
This triggers an immediate biological response : fibroblast activation, stimulation of collagen production, remodelling of elastic fibres and accelerated cell renewal.
The result is denser, smoother and more even skin.
Unlike chemical peels, laser peeling allows extremely precise control of the treatment depth. This precision improves the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.

Indications for laser peeling for skin rejuvenation

Skin rejuvenation with laser peeling is indicated in several clinical situations : fine lines and moderate wrinkles, photoageing, sun spots, an uneven complexion, enlarged pores and superficial scars.
It is particularly suitable for patients with skin ageing linked to chronic sun exposure.
For significant skin laxity, laser peeling does not replace a non-surgical lift using hyaluronic acid injections.

The different types of laser peeling

The choice of laser depends on the desired treatment depth and the initial condition of the skin.
An ablative laser, particularly CO2 or erbium, provides a more intensive effect. It is indicated for pronounced wrinkles and advanced photoageing.
An ablative fractional laser treats the skin in microscopic columns, leaving healthy areas between each treatment point. This technique promotes faster healing and reduces social downtime.
A non-ablative fractional laser, photorejuvenation, stimulates cells in the dermis without removing the epidermis. It offers gradual rejuvenation with milder after-effects.
The choice of technique is based on a personalised medical assessment.

Results of rejuvenation with laser peeling

The results of laser peeling develop gradually. After the initial healing phase, the skin appears brighter and more even.
Histological findings include increased dermal thickness, denser collagen fibres and improved skin elasticity.
Clinically, patients notice fewer fine lines, a more even complexion, improved skin quality and density, and a visible reduction in pigmentation spots.
The final result is generally assessed after several weeks, allowing time for collagen synthesis to be completed.

After-effects and recovery following laser peeling

The after-effects depend on the intensity of the treatment.
After ablative laser peeling, redness and peeling are expected for several days. Temporary social downtime may be necessary.
Fractional techniques allow faster recovery, with moderate, temporary redness.
Consistent daily application of sun protection is essential during the post-treatment phase to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Is skin ageing inevitable ?

Skin ageing is a natural biological process. However, its extent and onset vary considerably from person to person. With age, cellular repair mechanisms slow down. Fibroblasts produce less collagen, elastin becomes weaker and cell renewal decreases. The skin gradually becomes thinner, less firm and less radiant. Skin ageing is influenced by several factors : intrinsic factors (genetics, hormonal changes and a slower metabolism) and extrinsic factors (repeated sun exposure, pollution, smoking, stress, alcohol and lifestyle).
The sun is one of the main accelerators of premature ageing (photoageing). Smoking impairs microcirculation and contributes to a loss of radiance and the early appearance of wrinkles.
Ageing is therefore not entirely inevitable : it can be slowed, managed and corrected in a targeted way.

What are the signs of skin ageing ?

The first changes generally appear around the age of thirty, sometimes earlier depending on lifestyle.
The first signs of ageing are the appearance of fine expression lines (forehead, glabella and around the eyes), a gradual loss of radiance and a less even complexion.
Other changes occur over time. Established signs of ageing include sagging along the facial contours, thinning skin, increased dryness, established wrinkles, volume loss and more tired-looking eyes.
Every face changes differently, depending on genetics and lifestyle. The aim is not to erase every sign of time, but to soften its effects and maintain a rested, harmonious face.
