A clinical trial involving 333 patients assessed the effectiveness of hyaluronic acid injections in reducing hollowing beneath the eyes. At three months, an improvement was observed in 87.4% of treated patients, compared with 17.7% in the control group. At twelve months, this improvement persisted in 63.5% of treated patients. These results concern under-eye hollows only.
A review bringing together several medical specialties examines treatments around the eyes according to the concern: under-eye hollows, bags, pigmentation or skin changes. It highlights the importance of identifying the cause before selecting treatment. The choice of technique should therefore be tailored to each patient, because these concerns require different approaches.
A multicentre randomised trial assessed hyaluronic acid injections for correcting moderate to severe under-eye hollows. At eight weeks, an improvement of at least one grade on the assessment scale was observed in 80.6% of treated patients, compared with 1.9% in the control group. Among patients improved at eight weeks, 88 out of 97 retained an improvement at forty-eight weeks. The protocol allowed a touch-up.
