Dr Valeria Romano, aesthetic medicine practitioner in Geneva

PHILOSOPHY

Last updated : 24 October 2026

Aesthetic medicine requires particular attention to the individual, their expectations and the way they perceive their appearance. At my practice in Geneva, every patient’s care is based on attentive listening, a thorough medical assessment and honest advice. I aim to offer you appropriate treatments that respect your individuality and your freedom of choice.

My role is to explain what a treatment can offer you, as well as its limitations, so that you can make a fully informed decision.

Listening to and understanding your expectations

The first consultation is an essential opportunity for discussion. It allows me to understand what concerns you, the improvements you are seeking and the features you wish to preserve.

You may wish to soften a tired appearance, improve your skin quality or address a detail that has bothered you for a long time. You may also simply need medical advice before considering treatment. Every concern deserves to be heard, without judgement or a predetermined response.

I take the time to understand your expectations and consider them in the light of the medical options available. This discussion allows us to define a realistic goal and determine whether a treatment can meet it.

Preserving your identity and expressions

A harmonious result respects the features, expressions and proportions that make your face unique. The aim is to provide an improvement that fits naturally with your anatomy, without erasing what defines you.

A wrinkle, an asymmetry or an age-related change does not automatically require correction. I examine the face as a whole, both at rest and in motion, to assess its balance and whether a treatment would be appropriate.

This attention guides the choice of treatments and how they are performed. A subtle, sometimes gradual correction may be enough to address your concern. A measured approach remains essential to preserve facial harmony.

Basing every proposal on a medical assessment

Every treatment must have a specific indication. Its popularity or novelty alone is not enough to justify performing it.

An examination of your skin and anatomy, your medical history and any previous treatments help me assess what is appropriate for your situation. This assessment may lead me to propose a treatment, adjust an initial request or postpone a procedure.

I favour a considered approach based on the medical knowledge available, with constant attention to the expected benefits, limitations and risks of each technique.

Providing clear and honest information

You need to understand the proposed treatment before deciding to go ahead. I explain its aim, how it is performed, the usual after-effects and the risks involved, in accessible language.

The information also covers the results that can reasonably be expected. These depend in particular on your anatomy, the condition of your skin and your response to treatment. It is essential to explain the limitations of correction, any uncertainties and possible complications.

Other options, the cost of care and the possibility of not proceeding are all part of this discussion. You can then make your choice with a clear understanding of what your care involves.

Knowing when to advise against treatment

A doctor’s responsibility also includes recognising situations in which treatment is not advisable.

I may advise against a procedure when the expected benefit is too limited, the risks are excessive or the desired result cannot be achieved satisfactorily. The same applies when further corrections could make the features appear heavier or compromise facial balance.

I then explain the reasons for this advice and, if necessary, refer you for more appropriate care. Recommending that you wait or choose not to proceed is an integral part of my advisory role.

Respecting your time to reflect

A consultation does not commit you to treatment. It may simply help you understand the options available and clarify your thoughts.

You should be able to ask questions, express any reservations and take the time you need to decide. You remain free to accept the proposed care, postpone it or decide against it.

This freedom is essential. An aesthetic treatment should reflect a personal wish and a decision made without pressure.

Ensuring continuity of care

The attention given to your treatment continues beyond the procedure itself. Instructions before and after treatment, explanations of the expected after-effects and follow-up are all integral parts of your care.

I make sure you know which signs should prompt you to contact the practice and how to do so. Any unusual development should be able to be reported and assessed.

Follow-up allows the result to be assessed after it has had the necessary time to settle. Any possible adjustment is then discussed according to your needs and the medical examination, rather than being automatic.

Respecting your privacy and confidentiality

Talking about your appearance, insecurities or changes in your body can sometimes require trust. I am committed to welcoming you into an environment where you can speak freely, knowing that you will be heard and respected.

Medical confidentiality and the protection of your privacy are at the heart of this relationship. Your discussions, health information and photographs are handled with the confidentiality and respect for medical secrecy that they require.

Photographs intended for medical follow-up must be distinguished from those used for the practice’s communications. Their inclusion in your medical record does not constitute consent to publication.

A philosophy based on trust and sound judgement

My approach to aesthetic medicine in Geneva places as much importance on the quality of advice as on the precision of treatment.

Taking the time to listen to you, informing you honestly and proposing only what appears appropriate for your situation are the principles that guide my practice. I want every decision to be based on a shared understanding of your expectations and a relationship of trust, while respecting your personality.
