Mesotherapy : hyaluronic acid injections in Geneva
Prior medical consultation
Before any session, a personalised medical consultation is essential. It establishes the correct diagnosis, identifies skin needs and ensures that the patient is a suitable candidate for treatment.
During this discussion, Dr Romano carefully examines the skin's condition : hydration level, elasticity, complexion, density and the presence of fine lines. She also asks about medical history, ongoing treatments, known allergies and any contraindications such as pregnancy, local infection or active autoimmune disease.
Based on this assessment, a tailored protocol is established : number of sessions, frequency, target areas, type of injectable solution, injection depth and selected technique (nappage, point by point). This personalisation is essential to ensure effectiveness, comfort and safety.
Preparing the patient and skin before the session
On the treatment day, no particular preparation is necessary, but certain precautions are recommended. It is preferable to arrive with clean skin, without make-up or greasy cream. Dr Romano then carefully cleanses the area to be treated, followed by rigorous disinfection.
Depending on the patient's sensitivity or the target area (eye contour, scalp…), an anaesthetic cream may be applied approximately 30 to 40 minutes before treatment. This step is optional but allows treatment under optimal comfort conditions, particularly for the first sessions.
During the application time, Dr Romano checks the products to be injected, all strictly sterile, traceable and compliant with current regulations. She also prepares the necessary equipment : very fine needles, syringes, automated injectors or a gun.
Mesotherapy injections
Once the skin is prepared, the mesotherapy session can begin. Its duration varies between 15 and 30 minutes according to the treated area and technique used.
The procedure involves injecting very small amounts of active solution into the superficial dermis. Injected products are chosen according to skin needs : non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants…
Injection is performed either manually with a syringe or using an electronic injector, ensuring constant injection depth and even product distribution. Dr Romano exclusively uses an automated gun.
Two main techniques are used : nappage, which involves numerous shallow injections over the entire treatment surface ; and point by point, which targets precise areas such as fine lines or areas of localised laxity.
The pace is quick, with injection points very close together. The sensation is often described as slight prickling, perfectly tolerable for most patients.
After injection : cleansing, soothing and recommendations
Once injections are complete, the skin is cleansed and inspected again. Depending on the skin reaction, a soothing mist, post-procedure skincare product or light healing cream may be applied.
Immediate recovery is generally straightforward. Some redness, a feeling of warmth or small papules at injection points may be observed. These effects are benign, transient and most often disappear within a few hours. It is entirely possible to resume professional or personal activities after treatment.
Dr Romano then provides precise recommendations for the following 24 to 48 hours : avoid direct sun or UV exposure ; do not apply make-up to the treated area for at least 12 hours ; avoid saunas, steam rooms and intense physical exertion for at least 12 hours ; do not massage or rub the treated area for at least 12 hours.
These precautions aim to optimise penetration of the active ingredients, minimise side effects and promote rapid recovery.
Session frequency and post-treatment follow-up
A single mesotherapy session rarely produces a dramatic effect. This is a treatment with gradual results, with effects becoming visible over the sessions. Generally, an initial protocol of 3 to 5 sessions is proposed, with one treatment every two to three weeks.
Personalised follow-up is established to assess the evolution of results, adjust the protocol if necessary and ensure care consistent with the skin's response. Subsequently, maintenance sessions spaced three to six months apart may be offered according to long-term aesthetic objectives.
A mesotherapy session, in summary
In a medical practice, a mesotherapy session follows a structured, rigorously supervised process designed to ensure patient effectiveness, comfort and safety. The protocol always begins with an in-depth medical consultation, continues with skin preparation and performance of the technical procedure, and concludes with personalised post-treatment recommendations.
Each step relies on precise medical expertise, a well-mastered procedure and constant attention to individual needs. This quick, well-tolerated treatment acts deeply on skin quality while respecting its physiological balance and natural sensitivity.
