Mesotherapy : hyaluronic acid injections in Geneva
Eye contour mesotherapy : what are the actual effects ?
Mesotherapy involves injecting small amounts of active ingredients into the superficial dermis : non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, vitamins, peptides and trace elements. Around the eyes, this technique can be used very delicately with small doses to hydrate deeply and improve skin tone and natural radiance.
In some patients, it can thus give the eyes a more rested, brighter appearance by slightly reducing a wrinkled or devitalised skin appearance. In particular, it may reduce the “tired” effect associated with dull or dehydrated skin.
However, these effects are transient and superficial. Mesotherapy corrects neither pigmented dark circles, hollow dark circles nor bags under the eyes, which involve other mechanisms — and therefore other treatments.
Why does mesotherapy not treat dark circles or bags ?
Dark circles and bags are not concerns associated with a simple lack of hydration or superficial skin changes. They are structural abnormalities of pigmentary, vascular, fatty or bony origin, beyond mesotherapy's scope of action.
Vascular dark circles are associated with visible blood vessels under the eyes, made more apparent by thin, translucent skin.
Brown dark circles are associated with melanin accumulation.
Hollow dark circles are associated with infraorbital fat loss or bone structure, requiring an approach involving injections ofHyaluronic acid.
Bags under the eyes result from tissue laxity or herniation of orbital fat. They can neither be absorbed nor treated through mesotherapy sessions.
In all these cases, mesotherapy provides no significant correction. Its action, limited to skin revitalisation, does not address pigmentation, volume or fatty structures.
Mesotherapy and the eyes
When properly indicated, mesotherapy can improve the eye contour without correcting structural abnormalities.
It acts mainly by hydrating and toning tissues, improving the appearance of thin, dry or crepey skin. It also stimulates local microcirculation, slightly brightening the eye area. Furthermore, it prepares the area for other treatments, such as Skinboosters or hyaluronic acid injections, by optimising skin quality. Its use therefore makes full sense within a comprehensive aesthetic approach, whether prevention in young patients or regular maintenance to preserve the vitality of this particularly delicate area.
Which treatments genuinely correct dark circles or bags ?
Depending on the type of dark circles or bags, other solutions are more effective and indicated :
- For hollow dark circles, injection of a hyaluronic acid specifically suited to this area, placed deeply in contact with bone, provides lasting and very natural filling.
- For pigmented dark circles, certain depigmenting peels or laser treatments may be offered, with variable and transient results.
- For bags, only surgical blepharoplasty provides permanent correction, especially with marked fat herniation.
Skinboosters injected using a nappage technique may, in some cases, improve skin quality more effectively than mesotherapy alone. Skinboosters are injected in the malar area, not the orbital area. In fact, eyelid skin is too thin for hyaluronic acid injection.
The doctor's role is to assess the exact nature of the indication and offer the most appropriate treatment with effectiveness and safety in mind.
Conclusion : mesotherapy and the eye contour
Mesotherapy is not a solution for dark circles or bags under the eyes. It corrects neither volume, pigmentation nor structural laxity responsible for these concerns. However, by acting on skin quality, it can provide a fresher, smoother and more rested appearance, particularly on young, thin or slightly dehydrated skin.
Within a personalised medical approach, it fits fully as supportive care for prevention, revitalisation or post-treatment consolidation.
However, to treat dark circles or bags effectively, a precise diagnosis and appropriate care are essential.
