SLIMMING TREATMENTS BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS : WHEN TO START ?

Dernière mise à jour : 31 July 2026

Several treatments can improve body shape before the festive season, but the choice depends on the problem to correct: localised fat, cellulite, water retention, skin sagging or lack of muscle tone. Some require several sessions, while others, such as cryolipolysis, act gradually. It is therefore preferable to start several weeks or even months before the festivities.

Can you slim your figure before the festive season?

Yes, provided a specific problem is targeted and treatment starts early enough. Non-surgical treatments can reduce a localised fat deposit, improve skin firmness, tone certain muscles or address certain components of cellulite.
They cannot produce a loss of several kilograms or transform the whole figure in a few weeks. Someone with a stable weight but a small abdominal bulge does not have the same needs as someone troubled by loose skin or thigh cellulite.
The objective must therefore be specific: slimming an area, firming the skin, improving its appearance or toning muscles.

When should you start a slimming treatment before the festive season?

For a visible result on body shape before the festive season, it is preferable to begin treatments two to three months in advance.
Cryolipolysis should ideally be performed around three months before the event. Treated fat cells are eliminated gradually, and results are mainly assessed at this point.
Radiofrequency, muscle stimulation and mesotherapy generally require several sessions. Enough time must therefore be allowed to complete the full course and let results develop gradually.
With one week to go before the festivities, these treatments cannot produce a significant change in body shape.

Fat, cellulite, water retention or sagging: how can you tell them apart?

Localised fat increases the volume of an area, cellulite gives the skin a dimpled appearance, water retention causes swelling and skin sagging makes the skin less firm.
A localised fat deposit is an accumulation of fat in a specific area, for example the abdomen, love handles or thighs. It may persist even with weight loss.
Cellulite is recognised by its orange-peel appearance, mainly on the thighs and buttocks. It is associated with the arrangement of subcutaneous fat and the fibrous septa crossing the fatty tissue.
Water retention causes swelling that may vary throughout the day. It frequently affects the legs, ankles and thighs.
Skin sagging is a loss of skin firmness. It can appear with age or after significant weight loss.
Lack of muscle tone concerns muscle rather than fat. It makes an area less toned.
These different problems can coexist in the same area and require different treatments.

Which slimming treatments can be performed before the festive season?

Each treatment addresses a different body-shape problem.
Cryolipolysis uses controlled cooling to reduce a localised fat deposit, for example on the abdomen, love handles or thighs.
Cristal Fit uses muscle stimulation to trigger contractions, improve muscle tone and better define certain areas, particularly the abdomen and buttocks.
Radiofrequency is used when skin lacks firmness; the heat produced stimulates collagen remodelling and gradually improves skin tone.
Drainage mesotherapy is intended for swelling associated with water retention, while anti-cellulite mesotherapy aims to improve the dimpled appearance of certain forms of cellulite.
When several problems coexist in the same area, several treatments can be combined.

What results can slimming treatment achieve in one month?

Within one month, certain slimming treatments may begin to improve body shape, but their final result is generally not yet visible.
After cryolipolysis, reduction of the fat deposit is gradual and continues for around three months. An initial improvement may therefore be observed after one month, but results should be assessed later.
Several radiofrequency, muscle stimulation or mesotherapy sessions can also be performed within one month. The improvement achieved depends on the number of sessions, treated area and problem to be corrected.
For a more complete result before a specific date, it is preferable to begin treatments two to three months in advance.

Which slimming treatment can you have a week before the festivities?

One week is insufficient to reduce a fat deposit, firm the skin or improve muscle tone.
Cryolipolysis will not have time to produce a significant visible result. A full course of radiofrequency or muscle stimulation cannot be completed either.
A session performed just before the festivities may also leave redness, bruising, tenderness or temporary swelling, depending on the treatment.
One week before an event, it is therefore preferable not to start a treatment whose results require several sessions or weeks to appear.

Can several slimming treatments be combined?

Yes, several treatments can be combined when the same area has several problems. Each technique must then have a specific objective.
For example, an abdomen may have a fat deposit, skin sagging and lack of muscle tone. Cryolipolysis can address fat, radiofrequency skin firmness and muscle stimulation muscle tone.
However, combining several treatments is not useful when a single cause is responsible for the problem.

Do slimming treatments cause weight loss?

No. Body contouring treatments act on specific areas but do not produce overall weight loss.
Cryolipolysis reduces a localised fat deposit. Radiofrequency mainly improves skin firmness. Muscle stimulation acts on muscle tone. Drainage or anti-cellulite mesotherapy targets water retention or certain forms of cellulite.
These treatments are mainly intended for people whose weight is stable and who wish to improve a specific area of their figure.

How long do slimming treatment results last?

Results may be maintained over time, but their duration depends on the treatment and changes in body shape.
After cryolipolysis, destroyed fat cells are gradually eliminated. With weight gain, the remaining fat cells can enlarge and alter the area's contour again. Weight stability is therefore important for preserving the result.
After muscle stimulation, maintaining tone requires regular physical activity and, according to need, maintenance sessions.
Radiofrequency results are not permanent: skin ageing and the gradual decline in collagen continue over time.

What are the limitations of slimming treatments?

Body contouring treatments are not indicated for overall weight loss or for correcting excessive fat or skin sagging.

Diffuse excess fat requires weight-loss management rather than localised treatment. Significant skin sagging cannot be corrected by radiofrequency alone. With pronounced cellulite, its different components must be assessed before treatment is chosen.
Each technique also has specific contraindications, which must be checked before starting treatment.

How should you choose a slimming treatment before the festive season in Geneva?

The choice of treatment depends on the problem to correct and the time available before the festive season. A fat deposit, cellulite, water retention, skin sagging or lack of muscle tone are not treated in the same way.
In Geneva, a medical consultation identifies the cause of the problem and selects suitable treatment. It also determines whether there is enough time before the festivities to achieve a visible result, as some treatments require several weeks or months.
