A prospective multicentre randomised trial involving 176 participants assessed hyaluronic acid injections for increasing lip volume, with a control group receiving delayed treatment. Independent assessors and patients observed improvements in lip volume and aesthetic appearance, accompanied by high satisfaction.
A randomised trial involving 60 patients compared two hyaluronic acid gels injected into the lips. At six months, an increase in volume remained visible in around 60% of patients. At twelve months, assessors still observed improved lip appearance in 71.4% of patients in the first group and 76% in the second. These results suggest that aesthetic improvement can persist even when the increase in volume is less noticeable.
A meta-analysis combining the results of ten publications assessed the increase in lip volume after hyaluronic acid injections. An increase of at least one grade on the assessment scale used was observed in 91% of patients at two months and 74% at six months. The duration of results varied in particular with the product and injection protocol. Temporary local reactions were common. This analysis concerns volume gain and its persistence.
