HOW TO LOSE BELLY FAT ?

Dernière mise à jour : 26 June 2026

How can abdominal fat be reduced?

Two fat types accumulate.
• Deep abdominal fat surrounds organs, correlates with cardiovascular risk and cannot be treated by aesthetic medical techniques.
• Superficial subcutaneous fat creates prominence or irregularity and can be targeted aesthetically.
Men and women seek harmonious contemporary body ideals.
Medical and surgical methods address requests for a flat abdomen, a flat abdomen without surgery, firm and smooth skin.

Key points

Abdominal slimming in Geneva

Abdominal slimming is common: fat accumulates easily and resists healthy food and exercise. Effective non-surgical solutions target it. Methods

such as cryolipolysis and radiofrequency reduce local fat and firm for a flat, toned abdomen. Personalisation provides rapid, safe results without surgery or downtime.

Causes of abdominal fat

Three causes:
• Excess calories with limited activity.
• Genetic abdominal storage.
• Hormones after pregnancy, menopause or androgen decline in men after fifty.
Menopause shifts gynoid hips, buttocks and thigh fat to android abdominal storage.

Which foods burn abdominal fat?

No food truly burns abdominal fat. Some slimming allies support drainage, mobilisation and fibre-assisted transit.
Include them in varied protein- and healthy-fat-rich food, low in fast sugars and animal fat.
Foods helping burn abdominal fat include lemon, apple, aubergine, cinnamon, pineapple, avocado, green tea and papaya.

Which sport best reduces abdominal fat?

Overall loss is usually needed.
Exercise and balanced food are best.
Whole-body running, skipping and swimming maximise calorie expenditure.
Add abdominal exercises, planks and burpees.

Abdominal slimming treatments

Dr Romano assesses whether medical aesthetic care or surgery is appropriate.
Healthy food and activity must accompany treatment. Slim, active people with small local deposits are particularly suitable for non-surgical reduction.

Cryolipolysis for abdominal fat

Cryolipolysis uses cold for local slimming.
Painless sessions need no downtime.
Assessment matters: internal abdominal fat cannot be reduced.
Marked laxity or poor elasticity prevents proper contraction and makes treatment unsuitable.
Results appear at one month and peak at three.
One to four applicators and one to three sessions depend on thickness and location.

Abdominal radiofrequency

Abdominal radiofrequency particularly firms after volume loss.
It does not remove deposits but stimulates collagen, density, elasticity and tightening after slimming, reducing folds or flabbiness.
Mild laxity, possibly with a small deposit, suits it; severe laxity needs surgery.

Which device most effectively reduces abdominal fat?

Device choice depends on fat, muscle tone or laxity.
Cryolipolysis most often demonstrates real fat reduction, around 20 to 25 % subcutaneous thickness after one session. Progressive weeks-long results make it the local-fat reference.
HIFEM mainly strengthens abdominal muscles. Combined radiofrequency may additionally reduce fat and waist, but that is not its primary action.
Radiofrequency mainly firms and improves quality, not true fat loss.

How much does abdominal slimming cost?

Costs depend on area and numbers.
Consultation provides a quotation.
Each cryolipolysis applicator costs 250 CHF. Areas above, below or beside the navel may need one to four, totalling 250 CHF to 1’000 CHF per session.
Complementary radiofrequency may optimise firmness, particularly with laxity.
Each 300 CHF session treats the whole abdomen.

WHAT THE STUDIES SAY
01

In a randomised abdominal trial, treatment combining radiofrequency and electromagnetic stimulation was compared with a sham treatment. Measurements showed reduced fat thickness and increased abdominal muscle thickness. These results were still observed at six months. They concern the device combining both technologies and the protocol studied.

02

In a controlled trial involving 25 people, cryolipolysis was assessed on the lower abdomen. At twelve weeks, ultrasound-measured subcutaneous fat thickness had decreased by an average of 14.1% on the side treated according to the usual protocol. Adding warming after the session reduced treatment effectiveness. Overall satisfaction was high.

03

In a study involving 24 participants, six non-contact radiofrequency sessions were performed on the abdomen and flanks. After treatment, researchers observed reduced abdominal circumference and subcutaneous fat thickness on certain measurements. Sessions caused low average discomfort. These results concern the device studied and fat beneath the skin. The study did not assess visceral fat surrounding the organs.

Which evening meal supports abdominal fat loss?

Light lean protein, such as grilled chicken or fish, with fibre-rich spinach or broccoli supports fullness, digestion and flatness.

Which foods should I avoid for abdominal fat loss?

Refined white bread or pasta, processed sugar and saturated fat, and fizzy drinks promote storage and bloating.

Why does fat mainly accumulate on the abdomen?

Unbalanced food, inactivity, stress and genetics; high cortisol can favour storage.

How do subcutaneous and visceral abdominal fat differ?

Palpable fat beneath skin stores energy and cushions. Deeper visceral fat surrounds liver and intestines; excess increases type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk.

Why is abdominal fat harder to lose than elsewhere?

Metabolically active visceral fat may resist loss. Insulin and cortisol also influence regional storage.

Do upper and lower abdominal fat differ?

Distribution varies. Lower fat is often subcutaneous; upper may contain more visceral fat, which carries greater health risk.
