BODY PEELING

What is a body peel?

A body peel is a beauty treatment that involves applying a specific chemical solution to the skin to exfoliate the superficial layers. This process eliminates dead cells, stimulates cell renewal and promotes the appearance of new, smoother, more even and radiant skin.
Unlike the facial peel, the body peel is designed to treat larger areas such as the back, arms, legs and buttocks, and is tailored to address specific issues such as keratosis pilaris, improving skin texture and preventing skin ageing.

Body peeling in Geneva

A body peel is an increasingly popular method of aesthetic medicine for improving the quality of the skin on specific areas of the body. This treatment involves exfoliating the skin in depth to rid it of dead cells, improve its texture and reveal softer, smoother, more radiant skin.

Used to treat many skin imperfections, body peels are an effective solution for those looking for a visible improvement in their skin without invasive procedures.

How does a body peel work?

The benefits of a body peel are linked to the application of an exfoliating chemical solution based on acids, often glycolic, salicylic or trichloroacetic (TCA). Depending on their concentration, these acids penetrate more or less deeply into the epidermis to cause controlled desquamation of the skin. This exfoliation process encourages cell renewal, stimulates collagen production and improves skin quality by acting on skin imperfections.
After the peel, the skin will begin to peel naturally and a new, smoother and more even skin will replace the old layer of dead cells.

Indications for body peeling

Body peels are indicated for several types of skin problems. It can be used for :
- Smooth skin texture: to treat rough, dry skin or skin with surface irregularities. The peel exfoliates dead cells, leaving the skin softer and smoother to the touch.
- Treat excess sebum and inflammatory acne lesions.
- Reducing keratosis pilaris: keratosis pilaris is a dermatosis that manifests itself as small, rough pimples often found on the arms, thighs or buttocks.
- Even out the complexion and improve pigmentation: the peel evens out the complexion by eliminating the dead cells that dull the skin, making it more radiant.
- Prevent the signs of skin ageing: the peel stimulates the production of collagen, which contributes to the skin's firmness and elasticity.

Body peels are superficial and do not improve scars.

Areas treated during a body peel

The peel can be applied to several areas of the body that have imperfections or require skin rejuvenation.
- Back peel: often prone to imperfections, particularly acne and excess sebum.

How does a body peeling session work?

A body peel session involves several stages and lasts between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the area to be treated.

A preliminary consultation precedes the session. Dr Romano analyses the skin to determine the type of peel best suited to the patient's specific needs.

Preparing the skin: the area to be treated is cleansed to remove all impurities and prepare the skin to receive the peel.

Application of the exfoliating solution: a customised chemical solution is applied to the skin using a brush. The application time is a few minutes.

Neutralisation and soothing: the product is neutralised and a soothing cream is applied to calm the skin and prevent any irritation.

Post-treatment care: Dr Romano will give you specific instructions on how to care for your skin in the days that follow.

Precautions to take before a body peel

To maximise the effectiveness of the treatment and avoid side effects, certain precautions should be taken before undergoing a body peel.
- Avoid exposure to the sun: it is recommended to avoid direct exposure to the sun for three weeks before the peel, as tanned or irritated skin may react more intensely to the treatment.
- Prepare the skin with specific creams: Dr Romano may advise using creams based on glycolic acid or other exfoliating agents to prepare the skin a few weeks before treatment. But this will depend on the patient's skin type?
- Avoid hair removal and aggressive scrubs: It is essential not to aggress the skin in the three weeks prior to the peel to avoid any irritation or excessive sensitivity.

Precautions to take after a body peel

The precautions to be taken after a body peel are important to speed up healing and avoid side effects.
- Avoid exposure to the sun: after the peel, the skin is particularly sensitive to UV rays. It is therefore essential to avoid direct sun exposure and to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen for one month.
- Moisturise regularly: apply the moisturising and healing cream recommended by your doctor to speed up healing and reduce feelings of tightness.
- Do not touch or scratch the skin: during the desquamation phase, it is important not to scratch or pull at the dead skin, as this could cause scarring or irritation.
- Follow medical recommendations: Dr Romano may give you additional specific instructions for your skin type.
