Medical profiloplasty is an aesthetic-oriented medicine technique whose goal is to make the profile more beautiful and harmonious.
Since the rise of social networks and selfies, profile harmonization is a request that is truly growing.
Depending on sex, the profile will also be masculinized or feminized.
Medical profiloplasty is intended for patients wishing to improve the harmony and balance of their profile without surgery. It may be indicated in the following situations :
Before any medical profiloplasty, a prior consultation is essential. It allows Doctor Romano to analyze the facial structure, the profile, and the overall proportions. The patient’s expectations are also taken into account in order to define realistic and coherent objectives. This step leads to the development of a personalized treatment plan aimed at harmonizing the entire profile.
The medical profiloplasty can be performed in one or several sessions, depending on the areas to be corrected and the volumes to be adjusted. The number of sessions depends on the initial diagnosis and the strategy defined during the consultation.
During the treatment, hyaluronic acid injections are carried out in a targeted manner. The objective is to obtain a natural, balanced result that respects the identity of the face.
A harmonious profile has the following characteristics : it is beautiful to look at ; masculine or feminine features are well defined ; the elements that compose it respect the divine proportion of the golden ratio (beautiPHIcation) ; the play of light-shadow/convexity-concavity makes it attractive (7/9 points shape).
The duration of a session is generally about thirty minutes. The result is immediately visible for hyaluronic acid injections.
The forehead is rounded in women and straight in men.
Hollows will be treated and bumps camouflaged.
The height and projection of the eyebrows are calculated and modified according to gender.
Seen in profile, the nose draws a convex curve in men and a concave curve in women.
In the majority of cases, it is possible to create this curve and to correct bumps and hollows.
The projection of the chin is calculated in relation to the nose and the lips.
Its shape will be adapted to sex and facial morphology : a rounded or rounded-square chin will be sought in women, a square chin in men.
The lips are full and well defined in women.
In men, their volume depends on facial morphology and the patient’s wishes.
The upper lip is equal to one third of the lower lip and its projection exceeds it by a few millimeters.
The white lip is concave, the red lip convex.
The cheekbone is the main element of the female face.
In women, the cheekbone is high and centered on the malar bone and follows a soft curve that goes from the ear to the nose.
In men, the cheekbone is flat and rectangular.
The mandibular line must be well defined; it is the most important element of the male face.
The lower third of the face is fairly wide in men, narrower in women.
The mandibular angle is projected and square in men, rounded and softer in women.
Medical profiloplasty is a treatment that must be performed by an experienced physician. Analysis, technique, mastery of products, and knowledge of beauty criteria are essential.
Hyaluronic acid injections are the flagship technique. This treatment makes it possible to enhance and harmonize the profile and to lift sagging tissues that weigh it down (the 8-point lifting technique).
Botulinum toxin* injections are performed to open the eyes in women and to treat eyebrow drooping in men.
Cryolipolysis is effective for treating fat deposits in the double chin area.
(*)Botulinum toxin is indicated for the treatment of expression lines of the upper third of the face : the glabellar line (located between the eyebrows), crow’s feet (at the corners of the eyes), and horizontal forehead lines. In women, whose muscles are generally less powerful, it is possible to partially reduce the activity of the frontal muscle, which is responsible for forehead lines. This moderate relaxation often induces a slight opening of the eyes, providing a rested and luminous effect.
In men, on the other hand, the frontal muscles are more tonic and powerful. A complete blockage of this area is often performed, which leads to a lowering of the eyebrow, giving the gaze a more brooding appearance.
Medical profiloplasty is based on the use of hyaluronic acid, a product that is resorbable by the body. To maintain results over time, maintenance sessions are necessary.
The duration of action of the injections varies depending on the treated areas, the type of product used, and the patient’s metabolism. On average, the effects of medical profiloplasty last between 12 and 18 months. An annual maintenance session is to be planned in order to preserve the harmony of the profile.
The results of botulinum toxin injections last 4-6 months.
The results of cryolipolysis are definitive.
Medical profiloplasty, which combines hyaluronic acid injections to harmonize the nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty) and the chin (genioplasty), makes it possible to obtain immediate and reversible aesthetic results with a more balanced and natural profile. In a prospective study, the use of hyaluronic acid for non-surgical rhinoplasty showed a significant improvement in nasal imperfections, measured over an 18-month follow-up period, with consistent patient satisfaction in those treated without surgery ; this treatment proved to be safe and effective in individuals who did not wish to undergo traditional surgical intervention (Clinical study B. Baser et al., 2020). A systematic review of the literature published by V. Kumar et coll. (2021) confirms that non-surgical rhinoplasty with hyaluronic acid is a minimally invasive alternative with high satisfaction. Moreover, a more recent systematic review involving nearly 4,000 patients highlights that this approach is associated with very high satisfaction rates. For the chin, non-surgical augmentations with hyaluronic acid have demonstrated immediate correction of a retrusive chin with high patient satisfaction and a low risk of complications, which reinforces the interest of this method in harmonizing the facial profile (Y. Ou et al., 2023).
Medical profiloplasty makes it possible to harmonize the face by acting globally on the profile. Thanks to hyaluronic acid injections, it is possible to rebalance the nose, the chin, and the lips in order to improve proportions and overall facial coherence. This approach aims to correct imbalances without transforming facial features.
The main advantage of medical profiloplasty lies in its non-surgical nature. The treatment is reversible, minimally invasive, and offers an immediately visible result. The harmonization achieved is natural and personalized, while respecting the identity and expression of the face.
This technique represents a gentle alternative to aesthetic surgery and fits into a progressive approach, adapted to the expectations and morphology of each patient.
At Dr Romano’s practice in Geneva, medical profiloplasty is always adapted to the patient’s facial morphology and aesthetic objectives. In the majority of cases, hyaluronic acid injections are billed at 600 CHF per syringe. Certain more specific techniques may lead to a price adjustment, ranging between 650 and 750 CHF depending on the indication and the treated area. The number of syringes required is determined during the consultation.
Botulinum toxin injections are offered at differentiated rates according to the patient’s sex. For a woman, one area is billed at 300 CHF, two areas at 450 CHF, and three areas at 600 CHF. For a man, one area is billed at 350 CHF, two areas at 500 CHF, and three areas at 650 CHF.
Treatment with Sculptra is offered at a rate of 900 CHF per vial. In most cases, an annual injection of a single vial is sufficient to stimulate collagen production and maintain a progressive and natural result over time. Cryolipolysis, used as an adjunct in certain indications for the medical treatment of the double chin, is billed at 600 CHF per session. One to three sessions will be indicated depending on the extent of the adipose deposit.
An estimate is established during the initial consultation, according to the patient’s specific needs and the areas to be treated.
The results of a medical profiloplasty (performed with hyaluronic acid injections) last on average between 12 and 18 months, depending on the patient’s metabolism, the treated area, and the type of product used. Maintenance sessions are recommended to maintain the results and preserve the harmony of the profile.
Medical profiloplasty is generally minimally painful. Before the injection, an anesthetic cream may be applied. In addition, many injectable products contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, which makes the treatment more comfortable.
Medical profiloplasty is a non-invasive method using hyaluronic acid injections to reshape the profile, correct imperfections, and harmonize facial features. It offers immediate, reversible results with no recovery time.
In contrast, surgical profiloplasty is a more invasive procedure for permanent corrections that requires anesthesia, a longer recovery period, and involves surgical risks.
To ensure natural and safe results, it is essential to choose an experienced physician.
A medical profiloplasty session lasts on average between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the treated areas (nose, chin, cheekbones). The treatment is quick, with no social downtime, and the results are immediate.
