Beauty criteria for lips

Beautiful lips are pleasing to the eye, sensual and feminine. Beautiful, full lips are ideal, but normal-sized lips can be beautiful if they meet certain beauty criteria:
- The volume of the upper lip is two thirds of the volume of the lower lip.
- The upper lip projects a few millimetres further than the lower lip.
- The white lip is concave, the red convex.
- The Cupid's bow is well defined and the philtral ridges are clearly visible.
- The angle formed between the nose and the lips is 90°-95° in men and 110°-120° in women.
- The apex of Cupid's bow passes through the centre of the nostrils.
- The width of the lips must be equal to the distance between the two pupils.

What are full lips?

The Merz laboratory has developed volumetric scales for the lips, which enable the dimensions of the lips to be established objectively. Five stages have been identified:
- Stage 0: very thin lips.
- Stage 1: Thin lips.
- Stage 2: moderately thick lips.
- Stage 3: thick lips.
- Stage 4: Full lips.

The ideal proportions according to science

What are the ideal proportions for lips that are considered attractive? A study conducted by the University of California research unit and published in February 2017 in the American scientific journal JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery has attempted to answer this question.
Nearly 400 volunteers took part in the survey. They examined several photos of young women's lips and rated each one on a scale of 1 to 10, from least attractive to most attractive.
The results? Both male and female participants showed a clear preference for lips 50 % larger than the norm. They also preferred a ratio where the lower lip was twice as thick as the upper. This ratio is reminiscent of the natural, harmonious lips of celebrities such as Alessandra Ambrosio or Miranda Kerr, who are often considered models of perfection.
However, the study underlines one essential point: naturalness comes first. Full, harmonious lips are the most attractive. This research confirms that it is possible to beautify lips while preserving their natural appearance, thanks to appropriate aesthetic treatments.

The different types of lips

Depending on the size and curvature of the lips, the shape of Cupid's bow and the junction between the upper and lower lip, there are five different lip shapes.

Celebrity lip shapes

Celebrity lips have always fascinated and inspired. Symbols of charm and elegance, they often reflect aesthetic trends that have marked the ages. Whether luscious, defined or subtly enhanced, these iconic lips embody the ideal of beauty for many people.
- The Cupid style: this shape highlights the upper lip, with particular emphasis on the Cupid's bow. By slightly enhancing the outer parts, it gives a youthful, refined look. Ideal for patients who want a lifted, delicate and natural look.
- The Hollywood style: inspired by movie stars, this iconic shape enhances the three distinct curves of the upper lip. The corners of the mouth are slightly rounded, creating a harmonious balance with a moderately highlighted lower lip. The result is near-perfect symmetry and a touch of timeless glamour.
- The Classic style: universal and discreet, this shape suits all body types. It enhances the natural "S" of the lips, with a balanced ratio between the upper and lower lip. The Classic style is perfect for patients who are looking for a subtle, natural look.
- The Pearl style: characterised by a full lower lip, this shape is distinguished by a slight slit in the centre of the lip, creating an elegant "pearl" effect on either side. It enhances the sensuality and natural radiance of the lips, for a result that is both charming and sophisticated.
- The Super Model style: acclaimed for its spectacular effect, this style focuses on the lower lip. By adding volume to the vermilion and redefining the contours, it gives an instant glamorous effect. Ideal for patients who want a striking, harmonious result.
- The Déesse style: the "Lèvres de Déesse" style is characterised by full, projected lips, where the five parts that make up the lips are harmoniously accentuated. This approach emphasises volumes for an elegant, glamorous result. This type of lip is ideal for patients who have sufficient distance between the nose and chin to achieve a balanced, harmonious result. Inspired by stars and beauty icons, this style reflects sophistication and modernity.
