Several external factors accelerate this process.

  • Intensive use: particularly related to professional activity.
  • The sun: responsible for photo-ageing of the skin, in particular the appearance of spots and roughness.
  • Pollution.
  • Contact with water: prolonged contact alters the protective lipid film.
  • Chemical products: aggressive household products irritate and damage the skin.
  • Dry, dehydrated skin: dehydration accentuates the signs of ageing.
  • Tobacco: smoking reduces blood circulation and harms skin health.
  • Alcohol: alcohol dehydrates the skin.
  • Poor lifestyle habits.

  • Healthy eating : in particular, a diet rich in vitamins A, C and E and omega-3 fatty acids.

  • Plumping the back of the hands
This is done by injecting fillers such as hyaluronic acid and Radiesse, or surgically using the hand lipofilling.
  • Eliminating brown spots
    Peels and lasers are effective.
  • Treating crumpled hands

Hyaluronic acid to plump up the hands

The injection ofhyaluronic acid is an effective method for hydrating and revitalising the skin, restoring lost volume, smoothing out wrinkles and reducing the visibility of visible veins and tendons.

Hyaluronic acid for the back of the hands

Two techniques are used.

  • Bolus injection: a single 'ball' of product is injected and then massaged to distribute the product in the various compartments of the back of the hand. According to Dr Romano, this technique is not precise enough.
  • Micro-cannula injection: the cannula is a round-tipped needle. A point of entry is made with the needle to insert the cannula and deposit the product evenly all over the back of the hand. Dr Romano performs the injections using a cannula.

The hyaluronic acid used is a volumising agent. The quantity of product used varies according to the patient's needs and the desired results. The very first injection may require large quantities, four to five syringes for example.

After the operation, Dr Romano asks the patient to protect his or her hands from dusty or dirty environments (for example, gloves should be used for washing up or cleaning) for three days.

Afterwards, a small haematoma may appear at the cannula entry points.
The results of hyaluronic acid injections are immediate and last for a year.

How can I rejuvenate the back of my hands? Laser treatment for the hands

The laser used by Dr Romano is a ablative laser. The doctor uses the erbium laser and not CO2. These two lasers give comparable results, but the after-effects of CO2 are more severe, hence the preference for erbium.
Fractional lasers and resurfacing lasers stimulate collagen production, improving skin texture and firmness. The skin is denser, wrinkles are reduced and the tightening effect is rapidly visible.
By precisely targeting the areas to be treated, the laser eliminates the pigmented cells responsible for brown spots without damaging the surrounding tissue.
The number of sessions varies between two and three. Results are visible as soon as the healing process is complete and improve within three months. They last approximately two years.
The after-effects are marked by the appearance of small scabs and redness lasting no more than three days.
